CBD and Seasonal Allergies

Updated: Oct 7, 2021

Seasonal allergies occur with exposure to environmental factors such as pollen, animal hair, mold. Food and the genetic makeup of an individual also plays a crucial role in stimulating the allergic reactions. External factors alleviating allergies include humidity, temperature, climate, and stress. Therapeutic drugs available to treat allergic reactions have potential side effects, including drowsiness, confusion, nausea, and blurred vision.

Even though no proper research has been carried out on the benefits of CBD in treating seasonal allergies still many people around the world are using CBD to reduce the symptoms like nasal congestion and inflammation of the sinuses.

Immune system and allergies

Allergic reactions are an attack on the immune system of the body. Boosting the immune system can help in reducing the symptoms of allergic reactions and fighting against the foreign substance or allergen, which is causing the anomaly. Daily use of CBD can strengthen the endocannabinoid system so that the aggressive response such as the runny nose, watery eyes, pressure on sinuses, puffiness, and difficulty in breathing will be reduced to a minimum.

CBD for allergies

CBD does not interact with the endocannabinoid receptors directly; instead, it pushes the natural cannabinoids of the body to interact with the receptors of the system. CBD and terpenes extracted from the industrial hemp plant modulate the responses creating a healthy internal environment. CBD can help in the following ways:

  1. CBD helps balance the immune system so that it can produce a prompt response when an allergen enters the body.

  2. Research has proved that CBD is an excellent anti-inflammatory agent. It can quickly reduce the puffiness, aches, and pain caused by sinusitis.

  3. Antimicrobial properties of CBD and several terpenes can help in fighting off infections that lead to allergies.

  4. Full-spectrum CBD contains terpenes that are known for their calming effect promoting mental health during prolonged allergies.

The right CBD dosage for allergies

There is no universal quantity of CBD for allergies or any other health issues. The dose depend on the individual’s state and extent of the problem. However, it would be best if you always abstain from taking very high doses of CBD. Follow all other precautions to avoid seasonal allergies and begin with the smallest dose of CBD and increase gradually if it doesn’t work.
